a few days ago we crossed into the land ‘where dreams come true’ in hot and humid orlando, florida. unfortunately we were tied up with the conference and weren’t able to check out the parks at the magic kingdom, but we did get to stay at the dolphin disney resort. while in the sunshine state, i spent a couple days sharing about the canon cameras and lenses we use with others in the industry who are interested in what we do and how we do it. overall it was a very rewarding experience being able to share, learn and converse with other filmmakers.

i’m not sure what happened, but the wonderful concierge (bless her heart!) at the front desk upgraded me to a suite for the week. after a whole week on the road, i happily accepted the special treatment. here is the view from my room. the sky was cloudy and gray the whole week with periodic thunderstorms — and i really mean thunderstorms! i didn’t get a chance to take a photo during the heavy downpour but the rain was almost coming in sideways at times.

we’ve been making out way in and out of terminals all month, but i managed to work in some editing on the plane last week and will be posting a new highlight soon. can’t wait to share it here with you!

football. yep, football.

August 5, 2010

july was jammed packed with weddings on the weekends and we’re working on some highlights to share here on the blog, but before we get to that we wanted to share about football. yep, football.

we took a little editing detour this week and spent a few days with the gang from stillmotion at their nfl workshop. everyone there was from the broadcast world with seemingly unlimited resources and a ton of experience producing pieces on and off the field so it was certainly a very humbling experience for a small studio like us. i took the opportunity to roam around the stage during the sessions and snapped some neat behind the scene photos. you can read up on patrick’s take on the workshop at the sm blog and if you’re interested in learning more about using dslrs, you can also check out their education page for more info.

okay, enough of me — lights. cameras. action.

last week we traveled to yosemite for a wedding and got to spend a few days taking in all mother nature had to offer. there was no cell phone reception and very limited internet access, making it ideal for long hikes and killer photo ops. we stopped off the side of the main road to grab a few images of the burnt landscape and to say it was breathtaking is an understatement. you could look out into the wildness and it’s just miles and miles of charred terrain.

we also stopped at groveland, a teeny tiny town, for lunch at the old iron door saloon. it was a neat place to visit, but certainly didn’t feel very californian. there were dollar bills nailed to the ceiling, a blowfish hanging above the bar and very western-like wooden plank sidewalks.

on our way back to san fran we drove by a bunch of cows and ray just had to stop for photos. he’s into everything bovine (steak, milk and cheese) so there’s no way this city boy would pass up a chance to get up close to them. they look just as happy as those ‘happy cows come from california’ commercials don’t they?

and lastly i leave you with our stop at the san luis reservoir. pulling off the side of the freeway seemed to be a theme for that weekend so we couldn’t pass this up. the scenery, the colors…unreal. we were getting pretty hungry, but managed to squeeze a quicky timelapse of the crazy clouds roaring through the mountain pass.

i mentioned in the last couple of posts that we’ve been traveling for pretty much all of april so i thought it would be fun to share a bit of what we’ve been up to. but instead of me writing a novel about it, it’s probably a lot more interesting to tell it via photos so here are three collages that basically covers a little bit of everything. we started with a week in vegas at NAB to check out the latest cinema gear. while we were there, we also attended the awesome world premier for city of lakes. after that, we stopped by the studio for a few hours to pack up some gear and headed straight up the 101 fwy. a few days up in beautiful santa barbara for m+m’s wedding and we were back in LA for another few days where we visited the steadicam factory to check out some neat new things. a couple days after that we flew up to seattle, tried out a new steadicam rig and shot some behind the scenes of the beta test while we were up there for k+m’s big day.

all in all it’s been an awesome, but incredibly busy april. may looks just as crazy with us shooting every weekend. we’re excited about this summer and look forward to sharing more here on the blog.
