eugenia and mike live in new york, but wanted to host their celebration in beautiful napa wine country. when i first met eugenia and mike several months ago in san francisco i got a sense of who they are and their personalities certainly came through during their big day. eugenia was planning the wedding of her dreams and mike just wanted to enjoy the day. they are a sweet couple, a bit quirky at times, but that’s them and i thought the dr. suess reading they had mike’s sister read during the ceremony really fit who they are as people.

somethings are just meant to be and there’s nothing sweeter than love — well, that and a car full of candy. the night before the wedding the bridal party assembled the candy bar and while the girls were busy figuring out what candy to put in what jar, the guys decided to do a little quality control and pretty much sampled all the sweets. that was reflective of the wedding day as the guys enjoyed the morning with bike rides as the girls pulled the last minute details together for eugenia’s dream wedding.

when i saw the bees hovering around the foliage outside the cottage that morning, the bridesmaids were inside crafting the candy bar sign and it hit me — the sweet life they’re about to start was finally coming together. it made perfect sense to me that we incorporate all these pieces into their story and from their reaction after the debut, i’d say they are indeed celebrating that life.

when we saw tiff+mike at the rehearsal joking around with smiles from ear to ear, strolling arm in arm we had a feeling the wedding was going to be distinctly them and so it was. they were so in tune with each other, so sure about their commitment and so incredibly in love that nothing could have hindered them from declaring their love to each other and boy did they ever. before the wedding they had insisted we take whatever creative direction we feel is fitting for their film and when they gave their vows to each other at the ceremony we knew instantly that this was their same-day-edit. they are an amazing couple and we are so glad to have shared in their big day with them.

HIDE ‘N SEEK

June 24, 2010

it was a rather hot day at the park and we didn’t have much time to do this, but we had a ton of fun with these little guys. we wanted to keep it genuine and not ask the kids to do anything out of the ordinary so i wasn’t sure what we’d come out with – if anything at all. it was father’s day weekend and we thought it would be very fitting to tell the story of a child’s pureness, joy and innocence through cinema.

since they were playing hide ‘n seek, we thought it would make for a neat entry for a short film challenge our friends at stillmotion are hosting. you can check out their post and other top entries on their education blog. i would love to hear your thoughts on this piece.

theresa and rad have been together through civil marriage for a little while now and decided to officially celebrate their big day with friends, family and their son, nathan. they also celebrated their respective traditions by having traditional chinese door games and a full catholic mass with a cord and veil ceremony. the joining of them as individuals and the combination of their cultures was interwoven throughout their wedding day, making it truly them.

on a side note, they had their preps and reception at the langham in pasadena. it has a special place in our hearts because we had our own wedding there and it certainly brought back a lot of memories while we were there for theresa+rad. this same day edit was showcased at their reception and it certainly made it special for us to see the touching reaction from not only them, but their entire bridal party. thanks so much for sharing your day with us so we can share it here.

we had the privilege to work with zachary lucky a couple weeks ago in toronto and what an amazing experience it was. i’ve always loved his stuff, but hearing him live gave me a whole new appreciation for his music. we produced a music video for this song and recorded the audio track separately at the studio before going out to film. it was done all in one take and i’ve been listening to it ever since. this song was inspired by his travels through ontario and it certainly makes me love canada even more.

a side story. during the shoot we got into a little bit of trouble for being on the train tracks. we knew there wasn’t any danger and we always kept a lookout, but nonetheless got written up for it. was it worth it? of course. sometimes, we rather ask for forgiveness than permission. here’s my souvenir.

while i was editing the piece in the hotel room i wasn’t quite sure what to put in for the title so i walked over to zach’s room and realized he didn’t either. o’ ontario was named right then and there – in room 124. how cool is that? although i already have the live recording on my hard drive, i can’t wait for zach’s next album.
