a few days ago we crossed into the land ‘where dreams come true’ in hot and humid orlando, florida. unfortunately we were tied up with the conference and weren’t able to check out the parks at the magic kingdom, but we did get to stay at the dolphin disney resort. while in the sunshine state, i spent a couple days sharing about the canon cameras and lenses we use with others in the industry who are interested in what we do and how we do it. overall it was a very rewarding experience being able to share, learn and converse with other filmmakers.

i’m not sure what happened, but the wonderful concierge (bless her heart!) at the front desk upgraded me to a suite for the week. after a whole week on the road, i happily accepted the special treatment. here is the view from my room. the sky was cloudy and gray the whole week with periodic thunderstorms — and i really mean thunderstorms! i didn’t get a chance to take a photo during the heavy downpour but the rain was almost coming in sideways at times.

we’ve been making out way in and out of terminals all month, but i managed to work in some editing on the plane last week and will be posting a new highlight soon. can’t wait to share it here with you!

three frames | ft. bragg

August 24, 2010

i promised we’d keep you posted from our travels so here are three frames from our short time in ft. bragg last weekend. the first two were taken from an iphone so please forgive the image quality — on the left is our view from the rental car as we made our way up highway 128 at 3am. it was very dark, but you can still see the massiveness of the redwoods around every turn. and on the right is our view the next morning as we headed out to the wedding. this small town by mendocino is where w+j traveled to on their first trip together as a couple so it was very fitting that they chose this location to share with their closest friends and family. the northern california coast is amazingly beautiful and it makes want to move there.

the next frame is my favorite. it was taken from the back of the car on our way out of fort bragg and i think it speaks so well to the area and my experience from it. between the pacific coast highway and the 101 fwy is a 40 mile stretch that is pure insanity — curvy, windy, redwood covered mountain roads that would make for a great bmw commercial. what that translates to is gorgeous light coming through the trees and getting very car sick so this one frame really speaks to not only what i saw, but also what i felt that morning.

leaving on a jet plane

August 20, 2010

the summer is in full swing and we can’t believe its the end of august already. we’ve been busy with weddings and keeping up with all the traveling that comes with it. we’re also gearing up to launch the new website and blog soon so we’re wrapping things up on that end as well. there are lots of exciting things to come and we look forward to sharing all of it with you. until then, we’re on the road for another week — from los angeles to beautiful fort bragg to oregon and orlando — making our way in and out of terminals. we’ve been getting requests from many of you who are curious about our travels to share more about our experiences here on the blog so for this trip, we’ll be sharing some photos from our journey throughout the coming week.

last week we traveled to yosemite for a wedding and got to spend a few days taking in all mother nature had to offer. there was no cell phone reception and very limited internet access, making it ideal for long hikes and killer photo ops. we stopped off the side of the main road to grab a few images of the burnt landscape and to say it was breathtaking is an understatement. you could look out into the wildness and it’s just miles and miles of charred terrain.

we also stopped at groveland, a teeny tiny town, for lunch at the old iron door saloon. it was a neat place to visit, but certainly didn’t feel very californian. there were dollar bills nailed to the ceiling, a blowfish hanging above the bar and very western-like wooden plank sidewalks.

on our way back to san fran we drove by a bunch of cows and ray just had to stop for photos. he’s into everything bovine (steak, milk and cheese) so there’s no way this city boy would pass up a chance to get up close to them. they look just as happy as those ‘happy cows come from california’ commercials don’t they?

and lastly i leave you with our stop at the san luis reservoir. pulling off the side of the freeway seemed to be a theme for that weekend so we couldn’t pass this up. the scenery, the colors…unreal. we were getting pretty hungry, but managed to squeeze a quicky timelapse of the crazy clouds roaring through the mountain pass.

light. story. color. rhythm. movement…you.

there’s a lot that inspires us and so much of it comes from who we are, who we meet, what we find, why we create and where we go. as artists, it’s imperative that we continually ask the right questions so that we can grow and evolve. there’s nothing more frightening than stagnation and we constantly push ourselves to try new things and discover what inspires us. it’s not a once a year thing, but rather a daily effort to seek what is true, what is meaningful and what is genuine.

part of what helps us do that is travel. exploring new places, trying new cuisine, meeting new people and exchanging stories with other stranded travelers at airports all contribute to the collective spirit that inspires us. we are blessed to be able to travel and we intend to make the most of it. we’re off to another mini adventure and will be back in sunny socal next week. oh and i love these images of my new chucks. i thought it was an appropriate photo to share since we’re talking about being on the run and experiencing all the colors of life.
