Introducing RayJoyce Cinema!

January 30, 2009

What better way to start off the new year than to set new goals and push the limits of our creativity in a whole new realm. Our vision has always been to capture life’s most memorable moments in a fresh and intimate way. Photography is no doubt an excellent medium, but as we branched out of our comfort zone we realized motion film can be just as captivating. Surely you can capture the beauty of a bride walking down the aisle in a photograph, but wouldn’t it be great to have it in motion film too?

As photographers we often get requests for referrals to videographers, but we haven’t been comfortable with making very many recommendations. That’s not to say that there aren’t any talented videographers in socal, but we haven’t been able to really find something that would reflect our artistic vision. Most of the ones we see are classic films in a slightly slower pace than what we envision through our eyes. They are wonderful, but just doesn’t quite fit the vibe we get from the awesome couples we work with. The solution? Expand our offering!

I am pleased to announce that we are now RayJoyce Photography & Cinematography. Over the past couple months we’ve been working very hard to solidify our plans and vision of a unique cinematic experience. As we expand and grow, our team has grown as well. It is my pleasure to introduce to you the newest member of our team, Des. He is our cinematographer and an absolute wizard on the Steadicam.

This is a very exciting time for us and we look forward to sharing our highlights with you here on the blog.

Annie & Fred | Married!

January 19, 2009

It’s been a crazy few weeks here at RayJoyce with some exciting stuff coming up. So crazy that I didn’t get a chance to blog any more photos from Annie and Fred’s wedding until now. I love how brides just “glow” on their wedding day.

She was glowing, glowing and then made a 180 turn and looked cool as a cucumber when Fred showed up at the door. Talk about stylin’!

Here are some stills from the wedding party photo session.

This is one of my favorites from the day.

A normal, happy pose first…

Followed by a totally rad goofy pose. Love it!

The five fabulous handsome groomsmen…

…not to be outdone by their beautiful bridesmaid counterparts

The way these two kiss is just smitten. So sweet and into each other. I love seeing people in love!

And of course, we can’t forget the details. Annie chose varying shades of pink and purple as a color theme and everything came together beautifully. It was elegant and bold without being too loud.

Congratulations Annie and Fred! May you have a wonderful marriage full love, laughter and life. Thanks so much for letting us be part of your special day and we wish you guys all the best!

Vieve & Kevin

January 15, 2009

These two are soo cute together. We met up on a lazy Sunday afternoon and had a blast. Vieve (short for Genevieve – I love that name!) and Kevin are fun and outgoing people with lots of energy. The first few minutes of a shoot are sometimes a bit awkward, but these two are so bubbly we loosened up pretty quickly. Here are some highlights from the day…dandelions!

It was an absolutely gorgeous, clear, sunny socal day. While the rest of the country is trying to make it through freezing temperatures, we’re basking in 80 degree weather. I’m feeling a bit smug about that at the moment!

And I just couldn’t resist doing a jumping shot. They’re so young and full of life I figure this is a great way to capture their light-hearted, loving spirit.

We have some big news to share in the coming week so stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, have a great weekend!

:)

Mandy & Johnny | E-Session

January 4, 2009

We met Mandy & Johnny through a mutal friend at a wedding last year. Mandy was the wedding coordinator and Johnny assisted with the sound setup. At the time I didn’t know they were a couple, but we recently reconnected after they got engaged a few months ago. We were able to sneak in a quick engagement session at a nearby regional park last weekend.

They must have been the best dressed couple for miles. Everyone else at the park, including us, were in jeans and casual attire so they got lots of attention. I love Mandy’s dress! It’s so cute on her.

The park had lots of rolling hills and we hiked around quite a bit looking for a nice spot to shoot. Here’s the two of them taking a break. We got some yummy light on that beautiful afternoon.

When we headed out back and found a field of dry brush I just couldn’t resist asking them to go in. It was probably a good 4 feet high and very prickly so I wasn’t sure if they were okay with it, but they jumped right in! The sky was crystal clear and made a perfect backdrop. This is one of my favorites from the day.

And after a quick dress change we finished off the session with a stroll along the park.

It was great getting to know you guys better and we look forward to shooting your wedding later this month. Congratulations!

Liz & Minho | E-Session

January 1, 2009

Can you say sweet couple?! Elizabeth and Min are so incredibly cute together. Their wedding is next month and there’s no doubt that their love for each other shines through when you talk to them. They were so into each other I couldn’t help but giggle behind the camera. We started off in a cute little practice golf range where they used to hang out on dates.

As someone who is absolutely horrible at golf, I was once again reminded that not all girls are like me. Who says golf is a man’s game? Girls got skills too! Liz was fantastic on the green.

Then we headed over to downtown Fullerton and found a neat courtyard across the parking lot. They had all these benches arranged in 90 degree angles from each other so I thought it’d be an awesome place for this shot. They were such troopers moving from bench to bench.

And who doesn’t like a walk around town? The city apparently did a complete remodel of the whole downtown area and we were able to take advantage of it. As we took these shots, cars were zipping by with people yelling and honking at us. Hey, it’s not everyday you see a lovely couple posing for paparazzi on the sidewalk!

We didn’t know the area too well, but they sure did. When Liz said the words “train station” my ears perked up and we didn’t waste a single minute heading there. This picture is one of my favorites. Min is such a sweet guy and you can totally tell he scored major brownie points from Liz here :)

As we made it onto the platform, we caught the last glimpse of the sun with this beautiful burnt orange sunset.

As the afternoon came to a close, the beautiful holiday lights came on and the streets were literally transformed into a gorgeous night cityscape!

Thanks so much for coming out to the shoot. It was great meeting you guys and we had a blast laughing and giggling about money saving wedding tips. Congratulations on your engagement!
