Archive for April, 2010

i mentioned in the last couple of posts that we’ve been traveling for pretty much all of april so i thought it would be fun to share a bit of what we’ve been up to. but instead of me writing a novel about it, it’s probably a lot more interesting to tell it via photos so here are three collages that basically covers a little bit of everything. we started with a week in vegas at NAB to check out the latest cinema gear. while we were there, we also attended the awesome world premier for city of lakes. after that, we stopped by the studio for a few hours to pack up some gear and headed straight up the 101 fwy. a few days up in beautiful santa barbara for m+m’s wedding and we were back in LA for another few days where we visited the steadicam factory to check out some neat new things. a couple days after that we flew up to seattle, tried out a new steadicam rig and shot some behind the scenes of the beta test while we were up there for k+m’s big day.

all in all it’s been an awesome, but incredibly busy april. may looks just as crazy with us shooting every weekend. we’re excited about this summer and look forward to sharing more here on the blog.

we had the privilege to work with zachary lucky a couple weeks ago in toronto and what an amazing experience it was. i’ve always loved his stuff, but hearing him live gave me a whole new appreciation for his music. we produced a music video for this song and recorded the audio track separately at the studio before going out to film. it was done all in one take and i’ve been listening to it ever since. this song was inspired by his travels through ontario and it certainly makes me love canada even more.

a side story. during the shoot we got into a little bit of trouble for being on the train tracks. we knew there wasn’t any danger and we always kept a lookout, but nonetheless got written up for it. was it worth it? of course. sometimes, we rather ask for forgiveness than permission. here’s my souvenir.

while i was editing the piece in the hotel room i wasn’t quite sure what to put in for the title so i walked over to zach’s room and realized he didn’t either. o’ ontario was named right then and there – in room 124. how cool is that? although i already have the live recording on my hard drive, i can’t wait for zach’s next album.

music by zachary lucky. check out more of his work on withetiquette .

b * c | on a date

April 1, 2010

last month we met up with bethany and corey over on the westside for a lovely morning session. now while i love the light at sunset, morning sessions are just as awesome. there’s just something about the morningness of it all that gives it that quiet, fresh feel. we started out in temescal park over by pacific coast highway. this was where bethany surprised corey with a picnic and hike for his birthday last year. from what i understand, they also do some animal rescue work and decided it would be fun to bring their two little furry friends, ethel and kujo, along for the morning.

after that we all jumped in the car and headed over to the third street promenade for some santa monica photo fun. this was where they had their second date and also where the dogs first met (and approved of each other). they figured, if the dogs are okay with it – it’ll probably turn out to be a good thing. and sure enough, the dogs were right. more than just the imagery itself, i love how at home they are with each other. happy. comfortable. in love.

speaking of love, they took us out for crepes afterwards and boy was that good. we had mentioned our love for crepes and before we knew it, we were enjoying sweet & savory crepes and mimosas while chatting about the wedding. good times!
