from the beach to domo dolls to folding tissues in anticipation for the tears later on, this one has myra and cary written all over it. they met ten years ago in film school back in new york and have been engaged for six years so this has been a long time coming. for them, it was about celebrating everything they’ve shared together these past ten years along with what’s to come in the future. and for us, it was about tying cary and myra’s story into their wedding film.

there’s so much of them in this piece so i hope you get a better sense of who they are after watching it. they are an intimate couple and chose to have an intimate wedding with just fifty of their closest friends and family. in the film you can see cary packing a tea set, which was later used during the ceremony, for a simple but meaningful tea ceremony between just the two of them, signifying their commitment to each other.

being film school graduates they are also a bit geeky — cary is an editor who’s done some things for the discovery and history channels (we had lots to chat about when we met for coffee) and myra works in the gaming industry. so instead of a traditional ring pillow, they used pink and brown domo dolls from a series of japanese video games and you can see them throughout the morning as cary prepped to leave the house. they are also very into comic books. apparently before the wedding he had mentioned that he wanted to get some batman cufflinks for the wedding, but myra had already bought him a set of cufflinks as a surprise wedding gift so she had to convince cary that he didn’t need them. while it would have been totally rad to sport batman attire, cary still loved his gift.

and then there’s the kleenex. all morning there was talk in the girls’ room about whether or not cary will cry. after all, they’ve been together for so long and everything is finally coming together but even myra wasn’t sure how emotional they will get. i’ll let the film say the rest but one thing is for sure, they’ve made a home together and it will always be there.

HIDE ‘N SEEK

June 24, 2010

it was a rather hot day at the park and we didn’t have much time to do this, but we had a ton of fun with these little guys. we wanted to keep it genuine and not ask the kids to do anything out of the ordinary so i wasn’t sure what we’d come out with – if anything at all. it was father’s day weekend and we thought it would be very fitting to tell the story of a child’s pureness, joy and innocence through cinema.

since they were playing hide ‘n seek, we thought it would make for a neat entry for a short film challenge our friends at stillmotion are hosting. you can check out their post and other top entries on their education blog. i would love to hear your thoughts on this piece.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS | TO YOU

December 25, 2009

As we enter into this last week of 2009 there’s a lot that we have to be thankful for. For starters, you – our blog readers. Thank you for supporting us through your comments, referrals and encouragement. It’s so rewarding to pour our hearts into a set of photos or film and to be able to share them here with you. We’ve also been blessed to have some wonderful friends in the industry who have inspired us with their energy, their passion and their talents. We’ve grown so much through shooting and sharing with them and are so thankful for their friendship. And of course, to all of our brides and grooms who have so graciously invited us to share in their special day. Without you, your friendship, your story and your inspiration, we would not be who we are today. We have met some incredible people through our journey and every one of you has inspired us to be better storytellers, better editors, better friends…better people.

NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU

August 28, 2009

It makes me so happy when I see our couples taking a moment for themselves during the wedding day. The big day is all about them, but sometimes it’s so easy to get all wound up in the must do’s and must have’s that they forget to enjoy the day and each other’s company. I came across this shot Ray got of Karen & Joe right after their first look and I just had to share it here.

JOANNA * TOMMY | SURROUNDED

August 25, 2009

A day filled with lots of life, lots of laughter and a ton of love. As we were setting up for their lovely ceremony at the Fullerton Arboretum, it hit me again why I love filming weddings so much. If you’ve ever met Joanna + Tommy, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Both of them are awesome people who have huge hearts for their friends, family and each other. It was quite captivating to watch them be surrounded by so many loved ones who were all truly happy to celebrate their big day with them. It was particularly touching when I looked down at the lcd screen during the processional to see the groom fighting the tears as he saw his bride coming down the aisle.

Thanks for sharing your day with us.
